“The Railway Men: Unveiling the Heroes of Bhopal”
The upcoming series “Railway Men” is YRF Entertainment’s inaugural production, chosen meticulously by Aditya Chopra, the head of Yash Raj Films. The announcement was made alongside the revelation that the music for the series is composed by Shiv Rawail. This four-part romantic saga, emotionally rich and evocative, serves as a tribute to the unsung heroes of the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984. Notably, it signifies the first collaborative effort in a two-year creative partnership between Netflix and Yash Raj Films.
Set against the backdrop of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy caused by a lethal gas leak from an American pesticide plant, the central characters in “Railway Men” are employees of the Bhopal Railway Workshop, honoring those who played crucial roles during the tragic incident. The cast includes R. Madhavan (“Rocketry”), Kay Kay Menon (“Bombay Meri Jaan”), Divyendu Sharma (“Mirzapur”), the promising talent Babul Khan (“Friday Night Plans”), and Sunny Hinduja (“The Family Man”). Notably, this series marks the directorial debut of Rawail, who previously served as an assistant director on Yash Raj Films’ productions such as “Dhoom 3” with Aamir Khan and “Fan” with Shah Rukh Khan. Reflecting on the project, Rawail mentioned, “Aditya Chopra’s belief is that he will never create something that lacks inspiration for the audience. I believe that is the reason YRF has successfully influenced and shared pop culture across generations.”
“Aditya Chopra made the decision to produce ‘Railway Men’ for streaming. We dedicated over two years to the script and pre-production process before Adi gave the green light to the series. It was a thoughtful decision, driven by Adi’s desire to create something impactful that resonates with and is shared by the audience’” Rawail said. “The Railway Men” streams on Netflix from Nov. 18.
